Why work at UserVoice?

You want to build something that matters
You want to build something that changes people’s daily routine for the better. We’re not throwing sheep or tilling virtual farms. Your work will help people have more time to waste rather than waste more time.
You'd like see your work on a big stage
Your work at UserVoice will be seen by millions of people every month.
You care about creating great experiences
Our competitors might build more features but we build better overall experiences.
We’re not a startup sweatshop
- Full medical, dental & vision coverage. No crappy HMO plans either.
- Competitive salary and stock options.
- Longer hours than your typical 9-5 but no one is sleeping in the office.
We care about your career path
One of our core values is that growth is essential. Our goal, and expectation, is that you’ll always be learning while working with us (and us from you). We want you to achieve your goals whatever they may be.
What you can expect at the office
- Everyone is usually in the office by 9 and out by 6:30. We're a startup but we understand that time away from the office produces better results.
- Lots of Apple products. We’ve got Macbook Pro’s and 27” iMacs depending upon your preferences.
- We try to keep meetings to a minimum. We do a 5 minute standup each morning and once a week we have a team status meeting.
- Thursdays are quiet days, with no meetings allowed and the option to work from home.
- We do team off-sites every quarter. The photo to the right was from when we raced go karts.
- Our office is in downtown SF. There are a plethora of good lunch options and it’s easy to get here via BART, Caltrain or Muni (though most of us ride our bikes).
- Everyone works in the same room though we have offices that you can duck into to focus. Most of time we're "wired in" with our headphones on so we stay in contact with those sitting 10ft from us via Campfire chat. You'll want to keep "The Den" chatroom open to stay up-to-date on the latest inside jokes.
- Yes, we can deploy our code to production with a single command.
What you can expect if you submit an application
Our hiring process is quick. You’ll do a phone screen, a take home test and then an on-site interview with the entire team. If there's a fit we’ll make you an offer within 24 hours of your interview.
We can't wait to hear from you!

Customer Support
Do you have steel skin and an addiction to making people smile? You might want to see a doctor, but you might also want to work with us! UserVoice helps companies succeed by making our customers happy. We create simple, web-based software which helps companies gather prioritized feedback and provide excellent customer support. We have offices in San Francisco, CA and Raleigh, NC.
We’ve grown to the point where we need another Customer Support person to cover early morning Eastern (European afternoon) business hours. You will probably be writing some product documentation as well. Support will be provided via our Helpdesk ticketing system, as well as some live IM-style chat. You will work in the Customer Support department to provide an unparalleled customer experience, based in our Raleigh office, starting bright and early at 6am. You’ll need to be able to spend about 3 weeks with us in our San Francisco office for initial training—we’ll cover the lodging and the bus ticket :)
Must-haves:
- Empathy—We want our customers to be happy and thrilled about UserVoice Support.
- Energy—Most of your day is going to be spent responding to tickets, so we need someone with the ability to treat each issue with dedication and fervor.
- Smarts—Many of these issues are puzzles waiting to be solved, and will require detective work and problem solving.
- Similar to the above, you’ll need to be able to QA and write a proper bug report.
- Writing Skills (English)—You’ll need to come across as professional with a friendly tone.
- Computer chops—Many of these issues are technical and require you to know your way around a computer (and become a master of our product). We’ll train you on many of the specifics, but you’ll need a good foundation (general knowledge of the Internet and email rules/forwarding, and browser settings, to name a few).
- Independence—You’ll likely be on your own for the first few hours of the day, so you should be able to rock out on your own.
- Able to work approximately 6am to 3pm EST, Monday through Friday.
Bonus points for:
- Conversational ability in another language (pig-Latin doesn’t count, though may be useful!)
- Some HTML and CSS skills
- Some experience with technical writing

Copywriter
For you is writing a passion more than a job title? Do you agonize over finding just the right word that makes a tagline pop? Do you have a knack for writing copy that’s engaging, informative but also quirky and fun? Does reading the average press release make you cry inside? Did you already spot the grammatical error(s) in the preceding sentences (and are you already mentally rewriting this to make it better)?
If you answered yes to all of those questions then we think you’ll like working with us at UserVoice. We have a love of good writing but not enough hours in the day to do it ourselves (which you can probably tell if you browse uservoice.com enough). That’s where you, as our first ever copywriter, come in. You’ll be doing a little bit of everything from press releases to landing page copy to taglines to blog posts. It’s worth noting that UserVoice is a great place to work but not if you need to be mentored in your craft: the right candidate may not have 20 years of experience but they’ll probably have at least a couple (but feel free to try and prove us wrong).
You can read more about what we do below (and definitely check our our company values and what to expect about working here) but we think you’ll most like working here because your witty prose will been seen by millions and actually improve people’s lives. We know that our product saves people time and frustration and with your expert skills of communication we’ll be able to do both of those things for more and more people.
Interested? Great! Please apply by send us your resume, cover letter, writing samples and the following:
- A rewritten version of this job posting. We’ve not done any editing on it so it should be easy to make it much, much better.
- Look at these designs for conference banners, pick one and come up with 2 versions of alternate copy for it (be sure to tell us which one you’re rewriting).
Thanks for taking the time to apply and we look forward to working with you.
